IT might not work if your anxiety about visiting the dentist involves a fear of needles.
But researchers from the University of York found evidence suggesting acupuncture could help people who experience dental anxiety.
Up to 30 per cent of patients may suffer nausea, difficulty breathing and dizziness about their appointment.
Professor of acupuncture, Hugh MacPherson, from the University of York, said: “There is increasing scientific interest in the effectiveness of acupuncture either as a standalone treatment or as an accompanying treatment to more traditional medications.
“We have recently shown, for example, that acupuncture treatment can boost the effectiveness of standard medical care in chronic pain and depression."
But he said more trials are needed to measure the impact of acupuncture on anxiety.
