MEMBERS of Wheldrake Women's Institute grabbed their litter pickers to clean up part of the village recently.

They braved the cold and dreary weather to tidy up the Crockey Hill end of Wheldrake and near the school.

Together, they managed to collect five bags of litter during the voluntary litter pick.

Deirdre Burchell, president of the group, said: "We collected a lot of litter thrown out of cars or that had been dropped, it was mainly plastic bottles and tin cans.

"It wasn't the best weather we could have hoped for. But we got on with it and did it.

"I was very pleased with the effort they put in."
