DETERMINED fundraisers are inviting residents and businesses to walk the city walls to support a mental health organisation.

Volunteers from York Mind will complete the route along York's historic walls to raise money for the charity's important work.

The event, which takes place from 4pm to 6pm on May 18, marks Mental Health Awareness Week.

York Mind community fundraiser Holly Bilton said mental illness will affect one in four people at some point in their lives but unfortunately stigma still exists. She added: “The York Walls Walk is designed to raise funds and awareness of mental health issues, but also to be a fun and inclusive activity that everyone can enjoy. There is good evidence that physical activity and experiencing the scenic outdoors can help relieve stress, so walking the walls, enjoying the views and talking to other people is a great way to mark Mental Health Awareness Week in York."
