A HOMES plan for a York playing field is still on track, according to the city council.
In 2016, York St John University applied for and was granted planning permission to build 70 homes on land it owns on Windmill Lane, off Hull Road. The university said sports pitches on the site were redundant, but that angered neighbours who said it was a well-used piece of open space.
The Secretary of State said in July he would not be "calling in" the application, and now a council spokesman has confirmed legal agreements are being drawn up and the final planning permission notice should be issued soon - meaning the development can start.
The university has also confirmed that its legal representatives have been working with the council on finalising the legal agreements and bosses are looking now at the sale of the land to developers.
A spokesman said: "In the meantime, bids for the purchase of the land have been received by our agents Saville’s. These will be reviewed by the University next week."
