SUN worshippers in York and North Yorkshire have enjoyed the hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures soaring to 25C at RAF Linton-on-Ouse by this afternoon.

Crowds basked in the sunshine on Kings Staith near the River Ouse, in a scene of total contrast with earlier this month when it was swamped by floodwaters after heavy rainfall.

Others chose to sunbathe in the Museum Gardens and near the Bar Walls.

Tomorrow is set to be just as sunny in York but cooler, with forecasters expecting a maximum of 19C.

Saturday is set to see some further sunshine, although with a growing risk of heavy, thundery showers as the day goes on, and temperatures will slip to about 18C.

Sunday is likely to see more cloud and possible showers, with temperatures falling again to 15C, and next week will see them down to about 13 or 14C, amid some sunshine and cloud.
