TWO Norton College students have made a big splash by qualifying as lifeguards.
Annabelle Flounders and Nathan Mills, who are both 16, now work part-time at Derwent Swimming and Fitness Centre in Norton.
The two friends spent a week at York Sport Village working towards their National Pool Lifeguard qualification.
Both Annabelle and Nathan have enjoyed swimming from a young age. Annabelle, who has also been competing since she was eight, said she enjoyed working at the pool.
“There’s a great atmosphere there. I know everyone and everyone is supportive,” she said.
The qualification lasts a year and every month the pair must undertake training to keep up with all the necessary regulations.
Kerry Megginson, Year 10 and 11 assistant learning co-ordinator, said: “Annabelle and Nathan are to be applauded for their achievements. They are extremely hard-working, dedicated students who excel at all they do They really represent the best of Norton College.”
