HARLOW Carr is to stage a theatrical treat for gardeners, which has been dubbed "Downton Abbey with gardening tips".
In honour of National Gardening Week, which runs from April 30-May 6, the touring production of Old Herbaceous is coming to the RHS gardens, near Harrogate.
The production, a single-hander about a man with a passion for plants, will be staged on Thursday, May 3 at 7pm.
Giles Shenton plays single-minded but gentle veteran gardener, Herbert Pinnegar, in the humorous love story of sorts, which has been previously been performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the RHS arts festival, and was turned into a TV drama in 1980.
A recording for BBC Radio 4 is planned for later this year.
The play was adapted from Reginald Arkell's 1950 novel by Alfred Shaughnessy, script editor and chief writer on the original series of Upstairs, Downstairs and All Creatures Great and Small.
