A RESIDENTIAL home has been rated good in all areas by the health and social care watchdog.

Derwent House care home in Kexby was ordered to improve by inspectors after a visit in 2016 but it has now been rated good following an unannounced visit in January.

One resident told inspectors: "It's like home from home."

A report into the centre said people feel safe living at the home and that the organisation had focused on recruiting new employees recently so they could reduce the number of agency staff.

It also said: "People were supported to have choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible.

"We found staff were knowledgeable about people's needs.

"People and relatives we spoke with told us that staff were caring, pleasant and helpful. We observed positive, warm interactions between people and the staff that cared for them."

Staff said they feel supported.

Inspectors said a range of activities are on offer at the home, including hand massages, music and singing lessons, art sessions, jigsaws and puzzles.

A relative told inspectors: "They have lots of activities here. Old films, craft work, singing. There's always something going on."
