A FARMER and his son are spearheading a small revolution in the production of bio-fuels in Storwood, ten miles south-east of York.
Peter and Michael Rhodes head up Vegetable Oil Services, a new subsidiary of Peter Rhodes Feed Services, their well-known firm which provides cattle feed for farmers across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
Michael, who sparked the venture on the back of gaining UK and Ireland distribution rights for the German-manufactured Kek range of oil presses, has now set up a pressing factory at Storwood Manor Farm, capable of producing up to 5,000 litres of oil from 12,000 tonnes of rape seed every day.
It is no wonder that the pair have entered The Press Business Awards 2007 in the Think Green and Small Business Of The Year categories.
Their fully-computerised process produces expeller cake, which is bagged as possible power station fuel, and crude oil, which is fed into refining filters.
On the strength of its success the two men have already sold 16 systems to other farms in the UK.
