LORD Mayor Barbara Boyce visited a York school - and her dog Maisie came too!

The visit to Hempland Primary Academy today included a tour of the school to see project work the pupils have done on British values, citizenship, women in history and the role of the Lord Mayor.

As Cllr Boyce went to each class, the children shared their learning with her, which also included designing new mayoral robes and chains.

Prior to the visit, pupils were asked to think of questions to put to the Lord Mayor, with a lucky few invited to afternoon

tea with Cllr Boyce, where they were able to ask their question in person.

Questions included, What is the best part about

being the Lord Mayor? and What is it like to live in the Mansion House?

Later in the day, there was signed story in the Caddell centre, the academy’s specialist unit for teaching deaf and hearing-impaired children.

Hempland is part of the Pathfinder Multi Academy Trust, a partnership of church and community schools serving more than 3,000 pupils and their families across York.
