YORK’S Foss Barrier was closed as the River Ouse rose in the wake of Monday’s heavy rainfall.

The Environment Agency warned yesterday that flooding was expected at riverside properties, for example in King’s Staith and at Naburn Lock, south of York.

There was also a flood warning in force for the River Derwent at Buttercrambe Mill but others for the river at Stamford Bridge, The Weir Caravan Park and Kexby Bridge, were removed yesterday, as was an alert for the River Foss in York.

Meanwhile, another day of dry and sunny weather is expected in York and North Yorkshire today before rain, sleet and snow arrives later tomorrow and on Friday.

The weekend will see bitterly cold easterlies bringing maximum temperatures down to just 1 or 2C, along with a risk of wintry showers.
