THERE have been two burglaries overnight in Copmanthorpe, and two cars have been stolen after one of the break-ins.

North Yorkshire Police is urging residents to always lock their doors and windows following the burglaries.

The force said it received a report at 6.35am today that two cars had been stolen overnight after a burglary at a house in Sawyers Crescent. It said the handle was snapped off the front door of the property and keys to the vehicles were taken from inside.

The cars are a black Ford Focus, with the registration YD16 UTY, and a white Skoda Octavia, with the registration LJ12 AYE.

The force said it also received a report at about 6.50am today that a burglary had taken place overnight at a house in Horseman Drive.

It added that the lock was completely removed from the back door and it appears that nothing was taken.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "Please make sure you don’t make it easy for thieves.

“Remember to always lock your doors and windows every time you leave the house.

"Remove valuables from view of ground floor windows and hide all keys, including car keys, out of sight and away from the letterbox.

“If you notice someone acting suspiciously in your area please report it to police on 101.”

The force said it is too early to say if the two burglaries are connected.
