A POWERCHAIR football squad finally has a team strip to call its own.

The Jorvik Warriors were delighted to line up in their new kit, which was brought thanks to a kind donation of £500 from law firm Irwin Mitchell.

The unique sport allows people with a high level of impairment to get together and enjoy a fast-paced activity. Players of all ages, disabilities and genders compete against each other, in a 40 minute match.

Lyn Clarke, assistant secretary at the club, said: “Thanks to their kind donation, Irwin Mitchell has helped us with this and their actions have given the whole team a huge lift as we look to enter the North East Powerchair League.

“At Warriors we like to provide opportunities for all young people, their parents or carers to become volunteers and to be involved in powerchair football.

"We aim to encourage fun, participation and sportsmanship to help build the confidence of those participating."

One of the team's founding members, Stanley Hider, has now become a trustee of the club.

The team is part of the Wheelchair Football Association and North Riding FA and anybody interested in joining can come along to a training session at Energise leisure centre on Saturdays from 11am to 1pm.
