A 49-year-old man has appeared before York magistrates charged with murder.
Adrian Michael Rodi, of Chestnut Road, Cawood, is alleged to have killed Angela Rider, 51, in a house on the same road on March 4.
Her body was found early on Monday morning.
Rodi, wearing a blue-grey sweater over a white shirt and grey trousers, only spoke during the brief hearing to confirm his name, age, address and nationality.
He was flanked in the dock in Courtroom One in the Clifford Street courthouse by two dock officers. Two of his relatives sat in the public gallery.
Magistrates told him: "Because of the nature and seriousness of this allegation you will be remanded in custody until tomorrow when you will appear before Leeds Crown Court."
Rodi did not make a bail application because magistrates cannot grant bail in murder cases. He was taken back down to the court cells.
