FIVE lambs have been born to a ewe at a farm in Acaster – and to celebrate the rare delivery, farmer Hannah Dean has named them all after Great Britain’s Winter Olympic medalists.

The quintuplets, named Izzy, Lizzie, Laura, Dominic and Billy, arrived on Saturday 24 February.

Hannah, who looks after the sheep with her sister Jess at the family-run Hill Top Farm, said she was expecting the mother, Shauna, to give birth to four lambs and was stunned when she delivered five.

Hannah, 33, said: "I was just doing my rounds when I saw the mother Shauna with two lambs.

"We were told in the scans ahead of the birth that she was expecting four, so I stayed with her waiting for the other two to arrive.

"I was so taken back when she pushed out not two but three more lambs."

The chances of Shauna, who is named after animated character Shaun the Sheep, giving birth to five surviving lambs in a single pregnancy is one in a million.

Hannah added: "To have four healthy lambs is rare enough, but five is unheard of. I could not believe it when they were all delivered healthy and well.

"When we had five we had the extra task of giving them fitting names.

"As we won five medals in this year's winter Olympics it seemed perfect that they be honoured by our adorable flock."
