A SUSPECTED gunman led to the evacuation of a York city centre pub.
North Yorkshire Police say they received a report just before 6pm this evening (Friday, February 23) that a man was holding a gun in a pub on Goodramgate, York.
Police officers responded immediately and were at the scene within minutes.
The pub was evacuated, and a 37-year-old man was arrested inside by officers from North Yorkshire Police's Firearms Unit on suspicion of possession of a firearm.
He was taken into police custody.
North Yorkshire Police thanked the staff and customers in the pub for their vigilance and quick response, adding that there will be extra officers patrolling York city centre tonight to offer reassurance to the public.
The force Tweeted: "You’ll see more of us in town this evening following an incident on Goodramgate where it was reported a man was seen holding a gun in a pub. He is now in custody.
"Please be assured this was an isolated incident. Please speak to us in town if you need reassurance."
