FIREFIGHTERS have cut free a woman who was trapped in her car after a crash on the A19 south of York.

The collision between a Land Rover and Peugeot car happened at Deighton, between York and Selby, at 11.25 am today.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said crews from York and Selby went to the scene and found the Land Rover driver out on arrival and a woman in the car had also managed to release herself.

Another woman was released from the car by crews who removed the roof using hydraulic cutting equipment, and both casualties were then taken to hospital by road ambulance.

The A19 was closed in both directions for more than five hours, with motorists sent on a lenghty diversion, before it finally reopened at just after 4pm.

North Yorkshire Police said no arrests had been made and no one had suffered life-threatening injuries.
