GEIN'S Family Giftshop will be open for sketch comedy business at 8pm at The Burning Duck Comedy Club at The Basement, York, on Saturday with a company of Kath Hughes, Edward Easton, James Meehan and Kiri Pritchard-Mclean.

"I'm really looking forward to this one," says Burning Duck promoter Al Greaves. "Gein's Family Giftshop are one of our favourite sketch groups and have performed for us several times, including at our second birthday show.

"I caught a preview of this show last year and everybody is definitely saying it's their best one yet. It will also be interesting to see how they managed to resolve the show's elliptical narrative."

What's been happening in the Gein's Family world? James and Kiri have broken up with each other after eight years; Edward has moved back into his late mother's house, and the four have recorded a second series for BBC Radio Wales with a third on the way. On top of that, they have been threatened with being sued for libel and battled with mental health problems.

"We're pretty sure none of that will come up in the show, or, if it does, it'll be a heavily veiled allegory," reckons Greaves. Tickets cost £10, concessions £8, at burningduckcomedy.com or on the door from 7.30pm.
