IF manufacturing has a heartbeat, you will find it in Tadcaster - and it is a steady pulse.

That is the home of the privately-owned Lambert Engineering, whose 130 staff on the Station Estate build the machines that keep industry going.

They craft KitKat production lines for Nestlé Rowntree, assemble robots that make, sort and bag Gillette razors, and make machines that knead Play-Doh ready for potting.

In fact, the portfolio for this company is massive and growing as it approaches its 35th birthday next year.

It encompasses medical devices for the pharmaceutical industry as well as machines that aid production of cosmetics, household goods, automotive, packaging and printing.

And with 60 per cent of its annual sales of £12 million representing exports, it is pitching for both the International Trade Award and Large Business Of The Year titles in The Press Business Awards 2007.

Much of its success throughout is due to its one-stop-shop approach, embracing design, manufacture, assembly, installation and maintenance.

Sales director Matthew Cox ascribes his firm's success to "the 130 strong team, including the annual apprentices who learn our ethos of commitment and dedication".
