SAINT Petersburg Classic Ballet presents Swan Lake at York Barbican tonight and tomorrow at 7.30pm.
Under the direction of Marina Medvetskaya, the company has won plaudits across Russia, Scandinavia, the United States and now Britain.
Performing at York Barbican for the first time, Saint Petersburg Classic Ballet combines classical Russian training and technique with an air of magic, complemented by a full orchestra.
Pyotr Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake is a tragic tale of love and betrayal in which Prince Siegfried's true love, Odette is tricked by the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart and his daughter Odile. The lovers would rather die together than live apart.
Tickets for the 7.30pm performances are available on 0844 854 2757, at yorkbarican.co.uk or in person from the Barbican box office.
