CHIP shop owner Peter Abram has come up with a cracking idea to raise money for the charity that has supported him and his wife Jo since their first son Harry was stillborn six-and-a-half years ago.

For Mr Abram and his shop manager Angie Benson at Heworth Plaice in Heworth - who also had a stillborn baby, 35 years ago - is selling battered Cadbury creme eggs until Easter Saturday for £1 each.

And all the money taken will be donated to stillbirth and neonatal death charity York Sands.

"We were devastated when Harry died and since then York Sands has been there for us every step of the way with emotional support after we lost him and through subsequent pregnancies," Mr Abrams said.

"We lost Harry at 38 weeks, the day after we had the baby's head-wetting or baby shower. It was awful, a really bad time."

Sands York helped the bereaved parents spend a night with Harry and counselling sessions.

The couple now have three sons, Seth, 5, Freddie, 3 and Bobby, 2.

"Kim at Sands continued to support us. She's been wonderful and become a real friend," Mr Abram said.

"We felt passionately that we wanted to help Sands and came up with the idea of the deep-fried creme eggs.

"I've popped 150 eggs in the freezer that will be dipped in batter and fried for a minute to order. They are delicious, gooey in the middle and like cookie dough on the outside.

"I've already sold two in advance and made £2 for Sands and they went down well."
