FIREFIGHTERS were called to a blaze in the open in North Yorkshire involving a large pile of manure.
Fire crews from from Thirsk, Ripon and Northallerton were called to the fire in Green Lane, Balk, near Thirsk, at about 4pm yesterday.
A North Yorkshire fire service spokesman said it was a large pile of manure which had heated up and set on fire.
Crews used a hose reel, pitch forks and lighting to tackle the blaze and left it to burn out. Firefighters revisited the scene this morning.
