THE Co-op has confirmed it will be opening a new store in Clarence Street, by Easter.
A spokesman said the convenience store, about the same size as its most recent outlet in Paragon Street, will create 15-20 jobs following a six figure investment.
The Co-op's existing eight stores are in Paragon Street, Heworth, Acomb, Hull Road, Broadway in Fulford, Tang Hall Lane and at garages in Tadcaster Road and Boroughbridge Road.
The national chain has announced that it plans to open more than 100 new stores across the UK, creating about 1,600 UK jobs.
The retailer has also announced that it will be the exclusive wholesale supplier to the Costcutter Group, which has its head office in Dunnington, just east of York.
The Co-op will supply the 2,200 Costcutter stores across the country.
