CHRISTIANS are asking the public to tell them about lonely people so they can entertain them at a York sports club on Christmas Day.

The city’s Salvation Army is combining with York Sports Club on Shipton Road for the third Christmas in three years.

Major Sheila Dunkinson of the Salvation Army said, “Our Christmas Day hospitality offers a warm welcome on what, for some, can be a difficult day.

“Our guests celebrate the day with friendship, food and fun including morning coffee, mince pies and carols, games and entertainment, a full Christmas Lunch and a visit from the Lord Mayor and the Civic Party.

“Each guest returns home with a bag of goodies and a Christmas gift.

“Our volunteer team make the day very special for our guests and our volunteer drivers provide help for those who need transport.”

Club manager Kevin Johnson said: “We are thrilled to be partnering with the Salvation Army to make Christmas special for over 80 people this year.
