RYEDALE councillors have named ten locations they say are suitable for new housing.

They have also identified areas that could be used for new businesses or industrial building and areas where they don’t want to see new development either as houses or industrial buildings.

All the details are in the Sites Document, the latest consultation document on Ryedale’s Local Plan. The council will take comments on it until December 22.

The proposed housing sites are: the district council’s offices, land between Beverley Road and Scarborough Road, Norton, two sites in Pickering, three new sites in Kirbymoorside, plus land at Westfields in the town, and two housing areas in Slingsby and Amotherby.

The proposed industrial sites are near Thornton Road industrial estate, Pickering, and near Eden Camp, Malton.

The areas that the council wants to protect from development are in Malton, Old Malton, Norton, Welburn, Slingsby, Hovingham, Ampleforth, Pickering, and land between Amotherby and Swinton.
