A MAN has died in hospital after his car mounted the pavement and crashed into a parked vehicle in York last night.

The collision happened on Hull Road at about 8pm.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "A local man aged in his early 50s was heading east in a black Vauxhall Insignia when it mounted the nearside kerb and collided with a parked silver Toyota Corolla."

He was taken by ambulance to York Hospital where he died, the spokesman added.

The spokesman also said: "From initial police inquiries, there is a suggestion that the man may have suffered a medical episode while driving."

The collision scene remained closed until 12.45am today while police investigated and to allow the vehicles to be recovered safely.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward, as well as anyone who recalls seeing a black Vauxhall Insignia as it drove on Hull Road at about 8pm yesterday.
