SECURITY and safety advice for communities will be stepped up by North Yorkshire Police in the run up to Christmas.

Officers are encouraging the public to continue with their plans to attend or take part in events as normal, however, the public may see additional protective security measures in response to a number of recent terrorist attacks.

There could also be increased security checks at some events and venues.

To report anything suspicious phone the confidential anti-terrorist hotline on 0800 789 321 or in an emergency dial 999.

Superintendent Dave Hannan, of North Yorkshire Police’s Operations Command said: “The public should be reassured that our security measures are under constant review to make sure the people who live, visit and work here are safe and secure. Anyone caught up in an attack should follow the Run, Hide, Tell advice.
