YOUNGSTERS at Millthorpe School, in York, have been getting cultural and historical this week as part of their International Day 2007 celebrations.

Pupils have been experiencing a timetable with a difference as lessons head to Italy, Japan and Australia - without even leaving the classroom.

Children designed and created Venetian masks while learning about their history and trying out the Italian language.

Science lessons turned to learning about the German discovery of X-rays, while Fibonacci was taught in maths.

Other pupils tried their hand at the arts of calligraphy and origami.

Pam Watt, head of languages, said: "Pupils look forward to their annual International Day.

"As a language college, we wanted the pupils to experience the languages and culture of many different countries around the world."
