ALE and cider enthusiasts can enjoy a tipple or two and some live music at a festival near York this month.

Pocktoberfest returns on October 14, from 2pm to 10pm, and will take place in a marquee at Pocklington rugby club, in Burnby Lane.

The festival is Pocklington’s very own tribute to the renowned Munich beer festival Oktoberfest

It was first held in 2004, initially at Pocklington Arts Centre, before moving to the old railway station and then the rugby club.

There was no Pocktoberfest last year, but it has been brought back for 2017, with beers from near and far, top local musicians and food stalls.

Simeon Wilkinson, one of the original organisers who will be advising the revival, said: “Pocktoberfest was a great event, but we eventually ran out of manpower and just couldn’t put it on last October.

"It worked really well at the rugby club venue before that and we’ve reached an agreement for the club to take it on for 2017.”

There will be more than 20 real ales, lagers and ciders on offer, from local brewers and from further afield, including Elvington’s Hop Studio, which is sending its Pale Ale.

Intriguingly named cask ales from around the country, some specifically for the Halloween period, include Autumn Red and Poltergeist Porter, from Edinburgh, with other brews from Yorkshire, Suffolk and Wiltshire.

To make sure no-one is excluded there will be Prosecco and gin bars and ample soft drinks available.

The headline music act is the popular Primal Suspects, from York, with support from Bishop Wilton-based jazz band, Just Friends, plus other local musicians.

In addition, there will be a pizza oven and barbecue food stall throughout the day.

Admission is £10 and includes a Pocktoberfest commemorative glass and programme and a free first drink.

Tickets are available from the Pocklington rugby club bar, and from RM English Pet Food shop in Market Street, Pocklington.

Children are welcome up until 8pm, and the event is supporting the rugby club’s chosen charity for 2017, Hull and East Yorkshire Mind.
