A NEW pipeline is being built under the level crossing in Norton, near Malton, to boost flood protection.
The work will be done this weekend, and once it's completed Yorkshire Water will be able to deploy their emergency pumps during floods.
Currently pumping has to stop whenever a train goes past as the pipe from the pumps needs to be placed across the train track to get to the river. The new pipeline will go under the railway track and allow the pump to run continuously.
Yorkshire Water has been working with Network Rail to plan this pipeline so the pump will be easier to deploy, safer, and more effective.
