IF you were disappointed by Victoria Bergsman's decision to leave The Concretes after 11 years last July, you will be even more so by the Swede's debut solo album.
Positively perky on her guest vocal for Peter Bjorn & John's Young Folks last year, she seems weak and reduced on the stark Open Field, which is plain where it seeks to be plaintive.
Apparently, her new project's name was inspired by Bergsman's love of trees, but you would have more reward taking to the trees.
Autumn leaves fall from song after minimalist song, all recorded spontaneously yet too austerely in a six-day span, with only the occasional detour into Oriental orchestration to change the skyline. Just once, on Lost And Found, does a pop melody leave you swooning.
Not amused, Victoria.
