A WOMAN has been handed court orders to keep her dogs under control, after her pets attacked two other animals.

Marie Conlon, of Roche Avenue, did not have her dogs under control on two occasions earlier this year, when they attacked attacked a collie cross and then a blind springer spaniel.

Magistrates today gave Conlon, 39, four court orders: one for each dog requiring her to keep them under proper control at all times, including being muzzled and on collar and lead when outdoors.

The orders also require the male dogs, Troy and Frankie, be neutered.

Conlon has four Staffordshire bull terriers called Holly, Lily, Troy and Frankie.

On Monday, February 20 this year, two Staffordshire bull terriers attacked a collie-vizsla cross on Huntington Road. The terriers were running loose when the other dog was being walked by its owners.

The collie need vet treatment, and its owner was left with a hand injury after trying to stop the attack.

Then, on Saturday, April 8, again on Huntington Road, a blind springer spaniel was being walked by its owner’s mother when it was attacked by two Staffordshire bull terriers running loose.

The dog walker said the terriers carriet out a "frenzied attack", biting the spaniel’s face and neck.

She tried to stop the attack until a bypasser came to help her.

Conlon arrived a few minutes after the attack and took control of her dogs, which appeared to have escaped from her home.

The spaniel needed vet treatment for the bite wounds and the woman walking it had to have hospital treatment.

City of York Council's Cllr Sam Lisle, executive member for safer neighbourhoods, said: "With dog ownership comes a responsibility to exercise proper control over them at all times for the safety of your own pets, other people and other animals.

"This case shows that we will take enforcement action where appropriate against irresponsible owners to ensure that their dogs do not cause more injuries."
