AFTER seeing the letter from Diabetes UK asking for runners in the Great North Run to support this charity, I thought readers who have diabetes and are runners or keen sports people might be interested in coming along to our September meeting.
The speaker is Dr Daniel West, senior researcher at Newcastle University. He has carried out clinical research into the effects of exercise on insulin and how to balance the two.
I hope that this meeting will attract some of the younger people in York who are living with Type 1 diabetes and want to have more control over their blood sugar levels while participating in their favourite sport or exercise.
The contents of the talk might also help parents feel more relaxed about such participation.
We meet at 7.30pm on Wednesday, September 6 in the Community Room at Askham Bar Tesco.
Refreshments are provided and parking is free. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied.
Contact our chairperson or secretary for further details on York 01904 410490 or email yorkdiabetes@hotmail.co.uk, or phone me on 01904 690218.
Sue Smith, Vice chair, York & District Diabetes UK Group
