YOUNGSTERS from York are appealing to their older neighbours for help to organise a 1940s-themed street party to celebrate National Play Day on August 1.

Young people from the Moor Lane Youth Centre are planning the themed party, but would like information about what games young people would have played at the time.

Dee FitzGerald, City of York Council's youth service spokeswoman, said: "The young people chose the 1940s-themed party, and we have managed to get some appropriate clothes for them to wear, but they would really like to play the right sort of games for the era. We would love to hear from anyone who was aged between five and 15 years during the 1940s, especially if they were brought up in York, so we can make the party as authentic as possible."

The party is one of a series that will be held at youth centres across the city to celebrate National Play Day.

Members of the local community are welcome to join in with the festivities.

Anyone who has information about games should phone Moor Lane Youth Centre on 01904 707072.
