WHILE I take nothing away from the skill of driving round Silverstone or the mechanical means of propelling metal bullets on Elvington Airfield, I can't help wondering what we really achieve, apart from the burning up of valuable fuel resources, encouraging teenage road mania, and pollution.

I question the prudence of our actions.

Perhaps, when future generations wander around what's left of our world in spacesuits, they will question the wisdom of our generation, as we ourselves do regarding the excellence of Sir Walter Raleigh's promotion of tobacco.
