ADVICE sessions are being run in York to help people hit by soaring fuel bills.
Last week British Gas announced that it will raise the price of its annual dual fuel standard variable tariff by 7.3 per cent, with electricity bills rising by 12.5 per cent, from 15 September. Customers of all large energy firms have now seen their bills rise this year.
Citizens Advice York is running special energy advice sessions in August and September, to help people make sure they are getting the best possible deal on their gas and electricity.
The sessions are: Acomb Explore with Older Citizens Advocacy York on Tuesday, August 15 2-4pm; The Hub, Ellerbys Restaurant, York Hospital on Monday, August 21 11am-2pm; Red Tower, Foss Islands with Older Citizens Advocacy York on Thursday, August 24 2-4pm; The Hub, Ellerbys Restaurant, York Hospital on Friday, August 25 11am-2pm; Oaken Grove Community Centre, Haxby, Tuesday, September 21 11am-2pm; and Acomb Explore with Older Citizens Advocacy York on Tuesday, September 19 2-4pm.
Regular sessions are also held at Tang Hall Community Centre every Wednesday 12.30–3.30pm and Sanderson Court, Bramham Road, Chapelfields every Thursday 9am-12pm.
There will also be information about grants for insulation.
