YORK Union's unbeaten start to the Yorkshire Inter-District Union League ended in their fourth match when they were shaded by visitors Bradford and District.
The day was punctuated by several stoppages for thunder and lightning before Bradford sealed a 19-17 win on the last hole of the final match at Sandburn Hall GC.
The day started superbly for York with Pike Hills' Martin Brown and Heworth's Alistair Smith romping to a 6 and 5 win.
Further wins by Lee Grant (York) and Chris Halley (Malton and Norton) and Pike Hills duo Adrian Lount and Union debutant Mitch Carter, helped York to a 7-5 lead after the foursomes.
After a two-hour rain delay, York posted wins from Lount, Grant, Smith and Halley and halves from Brown and Liam Pucill (Easingwold) for ten more points to put them within two of victory.
But York lost the final six desperately close matches capped by the last tie in which Heworth's David Guthrie lipped two putts.
