CHILDLINE is sending out a final plea for York people to take part in the Great North Run.

The charity has a number of places still available for runners who want to take on the challenge of the world's biggest half-marathon - and raise money for a great cause at the same time.

This year's BUPA Great North Run will take place on Sunday September 30, and ChildLine is hoping that their team will be bigger and better than ever before.

Clare Framrose, ChildLine's fundraising manager for the North East, said: "Last year was a great year for ChildLine, we celebrated our 20th birthday, joined forces with the NSPCC and our Great North Runners raised a record £74,000!

"We've already had a lot of interest from our supporters, but we do have guaranteed places left on our team, so we would urge anyone who wants to help this great cause to step up."

Every runner who joins the team can expect a special day, with access to the ChildLine marquee at the end of the run, including free refreshments, goody bags and a complimentary sports/therapy massage, provided by trainees from Teesside University.

For more information about obtaining one of the guaranteed places in the Great North Run, or to use your place to raise vital funds for the charity, phone Caroline Sinfield on 0113 229 9313, or email csinfield@nspcc.org.uk.

The deadline for places is Monday.
