MORE than 120,000 people visited this year's Great Yorkshire Show, according to organisers.
After the wettest June on record, attendance was down 9.7 per cent on last year's record-breaking total, the Yorkshire Agricultural Society has said.
Although the rains made preparations for the region's largest annual farm and country event difficult, 122,042 people visited the showground in Harrogate and there were more competitive entries to the show than ever before.
Show director Bill Cowling said: "We have had another fantastic show and are delighted to have maintained the extremely high standards for which we are renowned.
"This was in spite of facing the most difficult weather in the show's history prior to the event.
"The highest June rainfall on record presented us with major challenges, particularly in preparing the car parks, but our contingency plans stood us in good stead and worked well."
Use of train and shuttle buses was up 40 per cent on previous years, figures indicated. Next year the Great Yorkshire Show will celebrate its 150th anniversary.
