A 'MINDLESS' attack on a car park barrier has been captured on CCTV camera - and now police have released the footage in the hope of catching those responsible.

North Yorkshire Police says officers want to speak to the group of people featured in the video, taken at a car park barrier in Scarborough.

A spokesman said the barrier at the Town Hall in St Nicholas Street was jumped on and forced open in the early hours of Sunday, causing extensive damage to the barrier itself and the electric motor inside the housing.

"CCTV video shows a group of people who may have important information that could assist the investigation," he said.

"Anyone who recognises the people pictured on the video is asked to contact the police."

PC Liam Cromack, of Scarborough Police, said: “This mindless act has resulted in a significant amount of damage to a car park barrier, damage that will have to be repaired out of council funds.

"If you were involved or know who may have been, I would urge you to contact me straight away to assist the investigation.”

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation should phone 101, select option 2, and ask for Liam Cromack.
