THE final tidying up of the River Wharfe’s bed following the reopening of Tadcaster bridge in February will start on Monday.
North Yorkshire County Council said stone left under and around the bridge following its collapse in the 2015 floods will be moved to create a shallower river bed, and stone in the river and the riverbanks would be utilised for “regrading” work.
Cllr Don Mackenzie, executive member for highways, said the work was expected to take five days, but was “weather and river level dependant”.
Pedestrians and traffic can still use the bridge, and the only work left to complete was the installation of streetlights, for which planning permission had been granted.
