BURGLARS broke into a chemist in York city centre overnight and stole a large quantity of prescription drugs.
Thieves smashed a window to gain entry to the Boots store, on the corner of Goodramgate and Kings Square, North Yorkshire Police said.
The burglary was reported to police by a member of staff shortly before 8am today.
Crime scene investigators were called out to the store.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "The window on Goodramgate had been smashed and entry gained. A large quantity of prescription drugs had been taken."
Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area overnight, or who has any information, is asked to phone police on 101, press 1 and pass information to the force control room.
