GOALS from new-boys Danny Frost and Jake Ellam saw Tadcaster Albion began their pre-season campaign with a victory over Northern Counties East League side Knaresborough Town.

Defenders Andy Milne and Aiden Savory were missing for the first match under the new management team of Michael Morton and Si Collins, as was experienced midfielder Pete Davidson, but former York City goalkeeper Michael Ingham was back in between the sticks after nine months out with a serious foot injury and skippered the side.

Aaron Hardy, Frost, Chris Howarth, Joel Dixon and Sam Akeroyd, meanwhile, were all handed debuts at York St John University’s Haxby Road sports complex.

Taddy opened the scoring on 21 minutes when Frost was given a split second just inside the penalty area and drove into the bottom corner.

Frost combined well with fellow forwards Josh Greening and Tom Corner, but the Brewers suffered a blow when Joel Dixon was on the receiving end of a heavy challenge and had to be replaced.

Jason Stokes, Ellam and Josh Grant were then all introduced for the restart and Albion doubled their lead eight minutes later.

The move started with Ingham claiming a free-kick before rolling out to former Bootham Crescent team-mate Liam Shepherd to get Tad on the attack sharply.

Shepherd clipped the ball down the line for Greening who beat his man and curled in the perfect cross with his weaker right foot for Ellam to tap in.

Midfielder Conor Sellars dictated play well for the remainder of the game and Taddy almost claimed a third in the final seconds when Ellam’s fierce shot from range was parried, but sub Piteu Crouz could not quite turn in the rebound.

Albion’s next friendly is on Saturday when newly-promoted League One outfit Doncaster Rovers visit the i2i stadium for a 3pm kick off.
