A MAN has been tasered outside the Palace of Westminster after he allegedly reached for a knife when approached by officers.
Police became aware of the suspect, aged in his 30s, acting suspiciously, Scotland Yard said.
The Metropolitan Police then discharged a Taser after the man allegedly reached for a knife. No one was injured in the incident.
Neither of York's Members of Parliament are in Westminster today, but staff from Julian Sturdy's Westminster office - which is based in Portcullis House, a few minutes from the scene - said the atmosphere was calm. Parliamentary authorities have told them there is no reason for alarm, but that people should remain vigilant.
A statement issued by the Metropolitan Police said a man in his thirties was arrested on suspicion of carrying a knife, but there were no reports of any injuries.
