CONTINUING a rich vein of elder form, Willie Nelson shows no signs of letting up at the age of 84.

This is is first album of original material for several years. At the dimming of the day, Nelson’s interest in travelling, raising hell and seeking pleasure continue unabated.

Musically, this translates into a rolling and rollicking set, with musicianship that is very pleasing on the ear. There are quieter moments, while Delete And Fast Forward Again is catchy enough to demand numerous repeats. Inevitably some old friends and special guest stars appear, but never upstage Nelson.

The title track, for example, features Tony Joe White and the late Leon Russell. God’s Problem Child (a distant cousin of Jim White’s God Was Drunk When He Made Me) is something of a signature tune, while Still Not Dead will surely by sung by the young at heart long after Nelson.

His wavering, unique vocals are something of an acquired taste, but hard earned and rewarding. The consistently strong material make this long-standing outsider’s record a contender.
