WHILE any job losses are tragic and all efforts should be made to save them, I think it is a lack of understanding to blame Brexit for job losses at Nestle (The Press, April 26).
Both Nestle and Terry’s to name but two were exporting jobs to Europe years ago because costs (for which read wages) are cheaper there.
If my memory serves me correctly Terry’s moved a lot of jobs to the Czech Republic and Poland before the factory in York eventually closed and this was long before the term ‘Brexit’ had even been invented.
This is exactly what Nestle are doing now. Trying to save jobs is to be commended, but simply making political capital by blaming Brexit is cheap opportunism at the expense of worried families.
