MORE than 40 girls from all over Yorkshire and the North East were in York this weekend, for an event to help them create change in the world.
The three day event was put on by Girlguiding North East as part of the “Action for Change” project, to help young women speak up about issues that matter to them.
Three girls from York were involved - Clare Ormerod from Foss Rangers, Emily Vie from 1st Vale of Mowbray Senior Section and Scarlett Chattern from Knayton Rangers. They heard talks from campaigners like Stevie Wise, who leads Sexist Surcharge campaign for equal pricing of mens’ and women’s toiletries.
Scarlett said: “I knew what I wanted to change before I came and now I feel I have the tools to change it.” Julie Wright, who organised the event on for Girlguiding added: “It’s been great to launch Action for Change here in York. The young women who have taken part are now inspired to do something really positive in their locality. Through the training and development they have undertaken this weekend they are now equipped to make change in their communities all over the North East.”
