GUNS thundered out in York yesterday as the military paid a 91st birthday tribute to the Queen.
A 21-gun salute was fired in the Museum Gardens in an event hosted by 4th Infantry Brigade and HQ North East.
The Band of the King’s Division performed a marching display through the city centre before the Royal Salute.
The Saluting Troop from 4th Regiment Royal Artillery fired three 105mm Light Guns, followed by the National Anthem.
Guests included the Inspecting Officer, Cllr Jim Dodds, the Mayor of Kirklees, and tourists and residents watched proceedings from behind a roped off area near the Yorkshire Museum.
The salute took place simultaneously with 11 other such events across the country.
York is the only Saluting Station in the north, having been given the honour to commemorate the city’s 1,900th anniversary in 1971.
