POLICE have named the 23-year-old man who died in a crash near a York Army training centre last week as Jordan David Keith Ewer, also known as Jordan David Keith Johnson, from York.
He was a front seat passenger in a blue Peugeot 206 convertible which collided with a stationary Mitsubishi Outlander on Monday morning in Towthorpe Moor Lane, close to Strensall Barracks.
He died from his injuries in Leeds General Infirmary on Monday afternoon.
Flowers were left at the scene of the crash and carried messages including: “My beloved son Ginge. You’ll always be missed and thought of.”
Another said: “Sleep tight amigo. Thinking of you.”
The Peugeot driver was taken to York District Hospital and the Mitsubishi driver to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough after suffering serious but non-life threatening injuries, said a police spokeswoman.
Two Yorkshire Air Ambulance helicopters joined three ambulances at the scene.
One car is understood to have left the road, and another rolled and landed on its roof.
The road was closed for several hours to allow emergency services to attend to the casualties and to allow collision investigators to examine the scene.
The Peugeot had been travelling towards Strensall from the direction of the A64 when the crash happened and police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash, or saw either of the vehicles before the collision, to contact them.
Anyone with information should phone North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for the Major Collision Investigation Team or email Kirsten.Aldridge@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk, quoting reference 12170056093.
