THE Archbishop of York attacks the National Trust because Great British Egg Hunts will be held in the grounds of their properties over the Easter holiday.
This is tantamount to airbrushing Christianity out of Easter, the Easter egg, being a Christian symbol, he argues.
The egg is, in fact, a pagan symbol of fertility, no more Christian than a maypole.
The Christian symbol is the crucifix, but I doubt whether they are made in chocolate.
And to state that the National Trust “spits on the grave” of the Quaker founders of the chocolate firm, may I remind the Archbishop that the Cadbury fortune came from 19th century sugar plantations and human slavery.
